Hummingbird

A small, winged jewel of a bird decided to brave the darkness of my open doorway and come visit me in my office last week. I was so surprised. It flew over to the large window near my desk and insisted on trying to go through, flying left and right. I tried to herd it back out the front door, but it was not interested and evaded my attempts. Finally, I removed the screen and gently ushered it back outdoors where it flew off in a buzz.
It was so strange to get this small visitor that I’ve been thinking about it ever since. In Animal-Speak: The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small, Ted Andrews writes this about the hummingbird:

Hummingbirds, called new world birds cause they are native to North America, Central and South America, are considered to be symbols of peace, love and happiness, moreover, ancient pagans held them sacred for their tireless energy and anxiety.
In Native American culture, a hummingbird symbolizes timless joy and the Nectar of Life. It’s a symbol for accomplishing that which seems impossible and will teach you how to find the miracle of joyful living from your own life circumstances.
They are really spectacular birds, and have a lot to teach a person about self discovery and healing.

Perhaps it’s past time to stop trying to go back through the door that brought us here, just remove the screen and take off.
